Okay, let me just say it straight: this opening is a masterclass in starting a story with tension already boiling. You don't need a single action scene to hook me when the groom is late to his OWN wedding and everyone's gossiping about how much he doesn't want to be there. I was immediately invested. The plot structure here is so clever because it operates on two levels simultaneously. On the surface, it's an arranged marriage story — fallen rich girl marries cold military man. But underneath, there's this whole web of history: the flood rescue, the promise made years ago, the dead brother A-Ling, the girlfriend Anya who's apparently still hanging around in spirit if not in body. Every piece of information the reader gets is filtered through gossip or indirect revelation, which makes the world feel real instead of info-dumpy. What really got me was how the plot keeps pulling the rug. Song Nian shows up hopeful, thinking maybe — just maybe — Xu Jin still has feelings from that flood days. Then he shuts it down coldly. Then his mom reveals the real reason for the marriage: produce an heir. Then Song Nian tries to find work and immediately hits a pervert. Each moment raises stakes and then immediately undercuts them. The narrative arc from Chapter 1 to 7 establishes the central conflict perfectly: she wants love, he can't give it, but they're trapped together by duty and family pressure. And that ending with the garment factory ad? Perfect cliffhanger setup. I need to know if she'll face more harassment, whether Xu Jin will find out, and what role Anya will actually play. This story knows exactly what it's doing.
An incredible work of art. The story got me hooked in the first chapter. I love the plot. The bad part is that it doesn't contain a legendary sword that can shoot ultraviolet beams.

An updated comment now that, I am further into the story. Okay It's pretty good? I honestly don't really know what else to say. We get to see more about the world. It is a slow burn but seems to be speeding up.
Im about 20 chapters in. But my god, why does he love this girl so much? He doesnt know anything about her, she hasnt done anything for him, barely interacts with him, yet he has professed his love 500+ times? Solely because of her looks? WHY? Its just confusing and out of place. Other than that frustrating bit it hasnt been bad so far.
