The beginning was promising, with him being betrayed and thrown into solitude in a dungeon. The first volume was indeed captivating. However, from there it took a sharp downturn. The story became bogged down by clichéd shonen tropes, like him suddenly gaining a daughter named Myuu... it's just frustrating. Why does he have to endure constant mistreatment without standing up for himself? He's weak, even afraid of a muscular woman – come on! If it were a slice-of-life tale, I might understand, but this feels like a once-promising novel being carelessly discarded. The emotional rollercoaster it creates makes it unappealing to read.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this work thus far! Despite its horror genre, there's surprisingly minimal violence. The action-packed elements exceeded my initial expectations, and I appreciate how well it maintains an air of mystery, leaving me eager for plot twists that will deviate from conventional assumptions.
The main character (MC) steadily grows stronger and wiser, developing at a moderate pace. She experiences fortunate encounters that boost her support network, yet she remains grounded, acknowledging her vulnerabilities and traumas. What sets her apart is her resilience and humility amidst success.
The male lead (ML) doesn't adhere to typical stereotypes found in Chinese novels. He comes from a complex and wealthy background, but his relationship with the MC appears genuine, despite their initial encounter being based on deception. This adds an intriguing dynamic to their partnership.
Together, they form a fantastic duo in battling malevolent spirits and individuals, with a healthy dose of charming relationship dynamics. If you're a fan of supernatural tales and can handle a hint of horror, this work might be right up your alley.
