I need to talk about Gu Shilan because this man operates on a completely different frequency than everyone else in this story. The way he handles Jiang Wan's packing scene is everything — he doesn't just 'help,' he crouches down and personally wraps her mother's wooden carvings in paper shreds because 'these are too old to be stored like this.' That's not just kindness, that's a man who understands that objects carry memory and he's protecting hers without making her feel pitied. And the hand-holding moment at lunch? 'His large hand enveloping hers was warm, causing the veins on the back of Jiang Wan's hand to pulse faster.' The author didn't even need to say more than that. Her body betrays her before her mind catches up. She pulls away and says 'I understand, Uncle Gu' like she's trying to convince herself more than him. But the real character revelation is how Gu Shilan treats everyone around him. Wen Qing calls him 'an old cucumber painted green' and he still brings her home a wife to celebrate. Zhang Qian nearly chokes on his saliva when his boss apologizes to someone — we're talking about a man who presumably never apologizes to anyone. The fact that he said 'Uncle Gu was wrong' to Jiang Wan is apparently historic. Meanwhile Jiang Ting is throwing cups at walls and screaming about 'bastard children' while her mother is doing the math on whether Gu Shilan would still marry Jiang Wan if he knew the truth. The contrast between these two women — one unraveling in hysteria, the other calculating coldly — says everything about how the story positions them.

Great book with lots of drama. You will feel different emotions. Be prepared to have the box of Kleenex for your tears. Give this book a chance.

I've read this story three times over the years, and I still tear up when I reach the part where Heidan calls the FL "mom" for the first time.
This is a heartwarming tale about a remarkable woman who leads a fulfilling life after being reincarnated into the 1970s. She becomes a woman whose husband's family had returned her to her natal home because she hadn't conceived within three years. But how could she have? Her husband, due to a "malfunction," never consummated their marriage!
She remarries, this time to a man who can't keep his hands off her. Every night, all night long—haha, he truly adores her.
Both her family and her new husband's family are absolutely wonderful. She is the epitome of a perfect Chinese wife, daughter-in-law, and mother to her husband's children. She sews, embroiders, cooks, and is fantastic with kids, in-laws, and godparents. Her entire family flourishes, goes to university, and becomes incredibly successful, all thanks to the tireless efforts of our protagonist, who is like an Energizer Bunny, always busy and caring.
Throughout the novel, there are perhaps only two or three characters who speak maliciously, all young women, and they are swiftly dealt with.
The writing isn't the best, and the last twenty chapters are almost skippable, but it's still a good read. I turn to this story when I want something simple and positive, with the message that people are good, life is good, and that life and family will only continue to improve if we all work together.

Then her family, who initially sold her, comes back to buy her later when she has nothing and they have been suffering from famine for three years?!
If they cared so much about her that they could buy her back during a famine, why did they sell her in the first place?
