This book keeps dropping these lines that hit different every time I reread them. 'The heavens and the mortal realm were no different. Both were driven by fame and profit.' Shen Fuxing says this almost casually, but it's the thesis statement of the entire story. The Heavenly Court isn't some ethereal paradise — it's a bureaucracy. They have merit points (salary), weapon budgets (procurement), political alliances (corporate networking), and performance reviews (the Jade Emperor's judgment). And Taibai Jinxing! Remember how he told her early on that the Heavenly Court was 'a place full of love' and 'labor was the most glorious'? He believed this for thousands of years. Now he feels 'a hint of weariness.' That single line — that's the death of innocence. That's the moment you realize the system you've served your whole life is built on something else entirely. The 'Dusk of the Dung Beetle' is the perfect symbol for all of this. It's a weapon made from waste (dung beetle + mortal grenade), refined into something valuable. It's alchemy for the age of capitalism. And the fact that it costs 'less than one-tenth that of a single sword' while being just as effective? That's the whole point. The Heavenly Court doesn't care about quality or tradition — it cares about margins. Shen Fuxing understands this better than anyone. She's not fighting the system. She's exploiting it.
