Let me just say this — the pacing in these first three chapters is ABSOLUTELY FERAL and I am here for it. Chapter 1 starts with Lin Xiuyan waking up in a beast garden about to be fed to tigers. She kills her captor with an axe, meets a masked psycho who wants to drink her blood, and somehow ends up alive and leading him to find a magical herb. That's it. That's the chapter. No filler, no unnecessary exposition dumps. Just pure momentum. Chapter 2 immediately raises the stakes by revealing Ye Junfei's identity — he's the rebellious minister, the tyrant, the man Zhou Chenyang fears. And then Lin Xiuyan figures out his cultivation problem and uses it to negotiate her survival. The chapter ends with Zhou Chenyang appearing and her punching him. Perfect cliffhanger. Chapter 3 starts with her crying fake tears after punching him, which is both hilarious and tense because we know Zhou Chenyang is manipulative enough to see through it if she's not careful. The pacing here is slightly different — there's more internal monologue as she reflects on her past life and her hatred for Zhou Chenyang. But it doesn't drag because the emotional intensity keeps it moving. What I love most is how the author controls the tension. Every scene ends on a note that makes you want to keep reading. The axe swing, the mask coming off, the punch — these are all mini-climaxes that propell you forward. There's no moment where you think "maybe I should skip ahead" because something is always happening. The only thing I'd note is that the transition from the beast garden to the outside world felt just slightly rushed — two hours pass and suddenly they're walking out. But honestly, in a story this fast, I'm not complaining.
