Zhao Xuanzhen knows exactly what it is, watches her be happy, and just... lets it go. That's such a power move, honestly. He's not even mad about it, he's just observing this naive girl who has no idea she's being treated like staff. The way the author builds this tension where we're sitting there going “she doesn't know, she doesn't know” while Zhao Xuanzhen is fully aware—it's delicious. And then the investigation subplot? Perfect. He sends the Fish-Dragon Guards to check her background and discovers she was actually abandoned in a farmhouse. So all that ignorance isn't arrogance, it's survival. She genuinely didn't know better because she was never taught. That changes everything about how we see her character, doesn't it? The plot twist here isn't some big revelation, it's this quiet moment of understanding that makes you want to go back and reread the pendant scene with completely different eyes.
