Okay so I need to talk about Zhao Xuelan and Jiang Mingyue because that hospital scene genuinely caught me off guard. I went in expecting another dramatic family confrontation and instead got something surprisingly tender. Jiang Mingyue just... drops the bomb that she wants a divorce and her mom's reaction isn't what I expected at all. "Mingyue, tell Mom the truth. Does he dislike you because you can't have children?" — and honestly, that question from the mom shows how much she genuinely cares, even if she's coming from a place of confusion. She chased after Luo Mingzhong back then, gave up university for him, and you can feel the weight of all that sacrifice in her voice when she says "Good child, you've been wronged." But here's what actually blew me away — the old lady (Luo's grandma) going absolutely feral on her own grandson. "You unfilial son, you'll be the death of me sooner or later." She's hitting him with a crutch and he doesn't even dodge. That's commitment to a bit right there. And then she turns on Lin Jinghua too, blaming her for spoiling the son. This woman is a force of nature. Meanwhile on the other side, Wen Ning and her mom Jiang Cuilian are plotting like actual villains from a 90s drama. The mom makes a cutting motion and Wen Ning is like "I want that slut Jiang Mingyue to die more than anyone else" — and yet she's also scared because Jiang Mingyue survived a suicide attempt. These two are unhinged in the best way possible for tension. The mother-daughter hug in the ward was the moment that stayed with me though. It was quiet and real and it made me actually feel for Jiang Mingyue's situation. She's been carrying all of this alone and her mom finally sees it.

It’s a fun and easy read, but there isn’t much tension. This is a pretty extreme case of a wish-fulfillment harem novel centered around an anti-hero who is only mildly scummy. Everything comes too easily for the main character, and he never faces any real losses.
I plan to continue reading because I enjoy tropey harem novels, but that’s all this really is.
The character development is inconsistent, but it’s not terrible. The main flaw is that everything is heavily skewed in favor of the main character.
