And then—then he sees her fixing the door. The door his mother loved. The door he was squatting in front of at midnight like some kind of romantic tragedy protagonist. And she just… fixed it. No fanfare. No "look what I did for you." Just "Mm, come take a look." I literally had to put the book down. Not because it was bad—because it was too much. The way Shen Qingci doesn't play the game he expects her to play. She's not trying to win him over. She's just… competent. Kind, even, in her own blunt way. And that's what unravels him. The CP chemistry here is built on misdirection. He thinks she's calculating; she's actually just doing what needs to be done. She thinks he's a brat; he's actually just a grieving son who doesn't know how to process anything except anger. Every interaction is two people talking past each other, and the reader is sitting there screaming. Also can we talk about the physical comedy? Him chasing her around the house like an anime protagonist, then getting his nose smacked? I was wheezing. The tension is there, but the author knows how to make us laugh too.
The FL was endearing with her numerous attempts to justify her actions, which were hard to believe given the situation. On the other hand, ML exemplified the common stereotype of someone with an IQ of 100 and EQ of 0, lacking understanding in romantic relationships. Despite their lack of emotional connection, he remained a decent individual who respected his wife. His behavior might appear unfeeling and distant, but he proved to be a kind and patient husband at heart. I truly hope the story continues, as I greatly appreciate the characters. good start but, hard fall off when the author decides to ruin the MC to forcefully further the plot. doesn't matter how good the story or world building is when the MC is unbearable.
