Okay so I have to talk about Hope Town because this whole setup is genuinely clever. Su Qingqing spends all this time pretending she failed to get supplies, coming back dirty and defeated, and the reader is like okay sure, whatever. But then she actually has a whole secret base with food and safety, and she's been playing everyone this whole time. That's not just a twist, that's a whole narrative strategy. The author is setting up this constant tension between what people know and what they don't know, and it works because everyone in this story is operating with incomplete information. Chen Xu's group flees their old base after witnessing Qinglong's abuse of children, which immediately makes them sympathetic but also desperate and directionless. Then they bump into Su Qingqing's family at the warehouse, and instead of just fighting or ignoring each other, there's this whole negotiation sequence where both sides are equally cautious. The mutated rat attack acts as a perfect plot device here—it forces them together without any of that awkward forced camaraderie. And then the payoff: the vehicle can't enter Hope Town, the rats lose their target at the boundary, and Miao Suisui appears in Snow White pajamas holding food like some kind of post-apocalyptic fairy godmother. The contrast between the brutal world outside and this safe haven is jarring in the best way. But here's what's keeping me up at night: what is Mayor Miao actually? A system user? And why did Su Qingqing choose to bring strangers there instead of going alone? The plot is laying breadcrumbs but not handing out a map, and I am here for it.
Author hear. Some of my inspiration on this novel is I wanted a grow a powerful character from the beginning starting with a strong foundation. A character we can see mature throughout the series

Not a beginner friendly book I suppose. 1. Would recommend reading 2 or more wuxia/xianxia books before committing to this one.2. MC's thought process and actions seem rather forceful not just as a result of the first point but also bcs general thought steps and open opinions are just skipped.
