Her daughter works as an administrative manager making 15,000 yuan a month and somehow has a refrigerator full of Australian Wagyu and Japanese Aomori apples. The math doesn't work unless you understand that every single yuan came from Su Jinxiu's blood, sweat, and fourteen-hour cesarean section. But the real dagger comes when Zhao Shiyu shows up and instead of being shocked to see her mother, she's disgusted. "An old woman who's been kicked out of her own home showing up at my apartment. They'll think I can't even afford to support my own mother." Let that sink in. She's more worried about her social image than the woman who carried her for ten months. Han Lao'er is different — his voice is cold, calculated, always circling back to what he can get. 'How much grain can you give?' He doesn't even pretend to care about her suffering. And then there's Mei Qian, who barely speaks but when she does, it's surgical. 'Aunt, after you agreed to give them the grain, what exactly did they say?' She's not emotional, she's gathering intelligence. Even her internal monologue is different from her speech — she thinks in strategies and her words are just the tip of the iceberg. Grandma Mei's voice is the most satisfying. 'Who would believe that?' Simple, dismissive, and absolutely devastating in its bluntness. The author also uses dialogue as weapon. Watch how Han Shi's lines get more desperate and more unhinged as the scene progresses, while Han Lao'er's get colder and more transactional. By the time he's asking about grain quantity, you realize this was never about family — it was always a business deal. And the narrative voice? It's right there in Mei Qian's head but never intrudes. You get her thoughts as natural as breathing, never forced. The humor lands too — 'Han Shi's honest and sincere face paired with her sarcastic words made Han Lao'er's back teeth clench and unclench repeatedly.' That's comedy gold delivered in a single sentence.

He tries to seduce her with "I might not marry a divorced woman, but I can certainly keep you well-provided for." And she just... shuts him down. The dialogue here is all about who holds power in each moment, and it shifts constantly.
There's this one scene that I cannot stop thinking about. Lu Zhenzhu peering through the bedroom door crack and seeing Gu Huai humming a cheerful tune while pouring powder into her milk. The contrast between his casual humming and the absolutely sinister act he's committing—it's like something out of a psychological thriller. The author describes it so simply: 'He hummed a cheerful tune as he worked.' That's it. That one detail does so much work. It shows how normalized this violence is for him. He's not tense, he's not guilty, he's just... doing it. Like making breakfast. And then there's the hospital scene. Jiang Sesè waiting outside the OB-GYN office, watching Lu Zhenzhu come out, then slipping inside like a ghost to steal medical information. The cold calculation of it. The way the author captures that moment of Jiang Sesè's expression darkening when she learns about the pregnancy—it's cinematic. I could see this as a film. The dinner party scene that's teased at the end also sounds like it's going to be devastating. The title alone—'The Dinner Party Where Everyone Mocked Her'—tells me this is going to be a public humiliation scene, and honestly, after everything we've seen, I'm not sure I can handle it. But I'll read it. I have to.
