Niko's POV please. The update is slow but I love the story, and lola is being childish with the way she acts, expected a mature attitude from her
I read this way too fast and got caught up too quickly. Loving the spin of this book. I like that it’s not your typical werewolf book.
The story is going in one direction only ..Tinas repeated suffering. How about a good news about her true identity. is the author dragging the story until 5000chapters ............I think Tina will soon die from physical abuse.. or age will become wonder woman
Let me just say this line out loud because I cannot get it out of my head: 'I'm with Zhan Rong Xuan because I like him. I'm not interested in becoming his wife. I love him—it has nothing to do with money, status, or fame.' Xu Yueyao just dropped a full romantic declaration in the middle of a confrontation at a basketball court, in front of literally everyone, and then internally monologued about how 'anything tied to true love becomes reasonable and leaves you speechless.' The audacity is incredible. The author clearly enjoys writing dialogue that functions as both character revelation and tactical weapon, and this scene is peak example. Fu Xiao Si's voice is equally distinct—every line he speaks has this predatory edge, whether he's threatening her or propositioning her. 'Then let me be your man. We won't let Zhan Shao know. How about that?' Bro, what kind of sentence is that? It's so casually inappropriate it loops back around to comedy. And then there's Chen Shen at the hospital, all dry and clinical: 'I'm a doctor. I don't lie.' The contrast between his flat delivery and Xu Yueyao's desperate pleading is perfect comedic timing. The narrative voice itself has this sharp, slightly sarcastic tone that matches Xu Yueyao's internal perspective—she's constantly commenting on the absurdity of her situation with this wry detachment. Even the background characters have distinct voices. Gao Yuyan's 'our class is really making a name for itself. Every little nobody is getting ahead' versus the classmate who dreamily says 'I wouldn't mind being played with by top-tier men'—you can hear both of them perfectly. The dialogue does a lot of heavy lifting here.
very slow start but it is getting interesting
Yeah eat your heart out
There's this one line where Xu Zhihe wants to pull her own hair in frustration—'The more she thought about it the more Xu Zhihe couldn't help but want to pull her own hair. Yet, the moment her hands touched the top of her head, she couldn't bear to pull. Hair might seem insignificant, but if it fell out in large handfuls, her heart would truly ache.' I keep thinking about this. She's trapped between wanting to lash out and being unable to even hurt herself. Her body is the last thing she has any claim over, and she won't even damage it. What does that say about a girl whose marriage, future, and very body have been treated as bargaining chips by her own father? And then there's the whole obsession with 'face'—Magistrate Xu's face, the Zhang family's face, the careful performances everyone puts on. The magistrate would rather let his daughter suffer than lose face in public. Zhang Fuyong uses that vanity as a weapon. Madame Lü performs hospitality while secretly seething. Everyone is playing a role, and the real people underneath are suffocating. The side door the magistrate uses instead of the main entrance—that's the whole family in a nutshell: entering and exiting through hidden passages, never facing anything directly. The brazier and the mutton soup aren't just cozy details. Heat is survival in this world. Cold is neglect, abandonment, danger. Xu Zhihe going from freezing in the dark to warming her hands around a soup bowl is a tiny but complete arc. And her realization that 'she still had to rely on herself'—that's the thematic pivot. The system won't save her. Her parents won't save her. Even her rescuers have to leave eventually. The only variable she controls is her own choices.
