Let me just say this first: Lu Zhixing is the most embarrassingly devoted husband in the history of fiction and I cannot handle it. The man walks in on his wife sleeping, gets caught by her in a sleep-grapple, and his entire reaction is to turn crimson and sit rigidly beside her like a statue. And then when she applies medicine to his wrist—his wrist, which she bruised, by the way—he just sits there watching her face the entire time. Not blinking. The author writes: "His gaze remained fixed on her face, unwilling to miss even the slightest change in her expression." That's not love, that's obsession wrapped in silk. But here's the thing that actually got to me: Wen Lan notices his wrist is slender enough that she can wrap her entire hand around it. She thinks about it for one second and then moves on, but that detail stayed with me. This man is physically delicate compared to her now, and yet he's the one who comes to her room at midnight, who cooks dinner, who hides his pain behind a lowered head. Their dynamic has completely flipped from whatever it was before, and the tension between them is delicious. Also, the fact that he calls her "Wife" at the end like it's the most natural thing in the world—after everything—hit me in a way I wasn't expecting.

Wow. Another amazing book by this author. Hands down my favorite author. I waited, I paid and I read every chapter. Honestly, this is a great book that should be published. However, I warn you not to read this book because it will cost you a very pretty penny!

I am not finished, so take that into account. I like the story. There are a lot of POV changes but the exact same scene. Ex: male POV then two chapters later it’s that event from the female POV but with little addition to the scene. It wouldn’t be so bad but it happens a lot.
