Initially, I couldn’t stand Riley. Then came Nadia. The two of them are my absolute favorite couple. Their life and loves, triumphs and tragedies kept me reading and wanting more. This story had the right amount of everything. There was nothing contrived or no loose ends. I loved every minute.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the opening line of this entire novel? "Your first time? I have high standards in that area—can you satisfy me?" That is the most audacious, unhinged, perfectly in-character first line I have read in years. And the fact that Wen Yao sits there and just... processes it? That she looks up and says "We're not suitable" before bolting? The dialogue here is doing so much work. Xing Yu's voice is immediately distinct. He's blunt, he's cold, he doesn't sugarcoat anything. But what's fascinating is that the author gives him this sharp exterior while slowly revealing the cracks underneath. When he asks Professor Yu for Wen Yao's number, he doesn't say why. He just asks. And the fact that Yu Qian immediately connects it to Xinxin—"Have you ever thought about telling him about Xinxin?"—that's dialogue doing double duty, advancing plot AND revealing character motivation. Wen Xin's dialogue is another highlight. "You're so young, yet already blind. How pitiful!" A FOUR-YEAR-OLD. This kid has more presence than half the adult characters. And her exchange with her mom about her dad—"I even know what Dad looks like"—that casual delivery of world-shattering information? The author knows exactly how to let dialogue carry emotional weight without melodrama. The workplace banter between Yuan Qingmei and Li Shu also feels lived-in and natural. These aren't characters who exist just to deliver exposition—they have actual opinions, actual dynamics.
I guess you’re never going to write anything else for this book. What a horrible author to just leave us all hanging like that. How do I get a refund.
