I need to talk about Fu Shi because someone needs to talk about Fu Shi. This woman came back from the dead — literally died and came back — and what does she get? Her husband immediately falling for her own younger sister. The text says it so casually: "he pushed Xiao Fu Shi aside." Just like that. She endured "countless hardships" to return to him and he couldn't even look at her properly. But the most devastating part isn't even that. It's that she still tries to be the good wife. When Xiao Fu Shi takes her daughter and leaves, Fu Shi's first instinct is to offer MORE ice. "Why not send two basins of ice over?" She's standing there watching her husband carry another woman to his bed and she's worried about whether the west courtyard is cool enough. And Liu Chengxu's guilt! The text says his guilt toward Fu Shi had shifted to Xiao Fu Shi. That's... that's actually really tragic when you think about it. He feels BAD for cheating on his wife with his sister-in-law, which means he knows it's wrong, but he does it anyway. And now he's using guilt as a way to justify staying with the woman he married after his first wife supposedly died. Xiao Fu Shi's line about wanting to watch Li Shu grow up before she dies hit me like a truck. She's not being dramatic — she's genuinely trapped. She knows Liu Chengxu's heart belongs to Fu Shi, she knows she's the "wall" in his heart, and yet she can't let go. The thunder scene where she grabs his hand and he pulls her into his embrace — that's not romance, that's two damaged people using each other. And Li Shu, reborn with all her memories, watching all this unfold as a child. She was an EMPRESS DOWAGER in her past life and she still couldn't protect herself. Now she's a little girl again and she has to play the obedient child while her mother slowly destroys herself for a man who will never fully choose her.
