The opening chapter is a masterclass in atmosphere. 'Drip-drop.' Two words and suddenly I'm standing in that forest with Lin Mian, ankle deep in mud, rain lashing my face. The author doesn't just describe the setting — they make you FEEL it. The rotting leaves, the slippery ground, the heavy rain turning everything into a nightmare. And then the gunfire. The blood mixing with rainwater dripping onto Lin Mian's face. The stench. I could literally smell it. But the most striking image has to be He Duoye's first appearance. While everyone else is soaked and covered in mud and blood, he's sitting in a black business vehicle with his door wide open, one long leg planted on the ground, short boots sharp and clean. His black T-shirt clinging to an exceptionally well-built physique. Two wide silver rings on his fingers. Holding a pistol with a careless, languid grip. The contrast between his pristine, controlled appearance and the chaotic violence around him tells you everything you need to know about who he is. He's not part of this world — he's its master. And then Uncle Mei emerges from the shadows like some kind of ghost, wearing a white traditional cloth jacket under a black umbrella, looking like a calm storm in human form. The visual storytelling here is incredible. Every scene feels like a frame from a film. The rainforest, the vehicles, the guns, the blood, the power dynamics all visible in a single glance.
Amazing! This is my new favorite book! The story is well written with great characters and Worth it! I wish I could purchase this in a book, because I would! Excellent work, congrats to the Author!
