I need to be honest with you all—the moment that got me was NOT the jewelry store face-slap. It was the quiet moment after everything. Wen Zhi is sprawled on the bed, exhausted, and she tells Mo Tingyan she's tired. And he... he actually leaves. He doesn't push. He doesn't make a scene. He just gets dressed, makes a joke about being used and discarded, and goes to his own room. Then later, she hears him having a nightmare and goes to check on him. Not because she's trying to be sweet—she literally just came for water—but because she's a decent human being. And when he wakes up and grabs her, the fear in that moment is so real. You can feel it. Two people who have been hurt, who don't know how to be gentle, reaching for each other in the dark. And the necklace scene? Wen Zhi's internal monologue when she sees the price tag—"Could this thing be returned?"—is so funny but also so telling. She's not impressed by the gesture, she's stressed about the money. She doesn't care about the four million yuan flex; she cares that her husband might be reckless with their finances. That's love in its most practical form. Meanwhile Mo Tingyan is over here doing grand romantic gestures like he's in a different genre of novel, and Wen Zhi is just trying to figure out if she can afford groceries next month. The contrast is everything.
