"Good luck, I heard he's very scary, it's said he never lets anyone see him." She went down to a whisper. "I heard if they do see him, he kills them!" She shivered.
Mom...
Let me talk about how this author constructs tension because honestly the pacing here is absolutely ruthless and I respect it. Chapter 3 opens with Wen Yan waking up next to Xie Cheng. That's it. That's the chapter. No buildup, no warning, just BAM you're in the hotel room with her. The author doesn't even give us the night before—we only get fragments through the video. This is smart because it forces us to experience the confusion alongside Wen Yan. We're not watching from a safe distance; we're right there in the panic with her. Then the phone rings. Qi Siye calls. And the author has Xie Cheng answer it and put it on speakerphone. This is such a bold structural choice. We get three voices in the same room—Xie Cheng's cold delivery, Wen Yan's internal screaming, Qi Siye's worried tone—and the tension between them is electric. Qi Siye says "I'll thank him the next time we meet" and you can literally feel Xie Cheng's jaw tightening. The transition to Chapter 4 is equally sharp. One moment she's in the hotel, the next she's showering at the villa, and then Qi Siye is pulling up in a Maybach. The speed of it all—she went from waking up beside her ex to trying on wedding dresses in the span of a few hours. This isn't just efficient storytelling; it's mirroring her emotional whiplash. Life doesn't pause for her crisis, and the narrative doesn't either. And then the chapter ends with her falling on the stairs and tossing a coin in her heart. A coin toss. After everything. The author is basically saying "she's still considering staying" and I am SHOOK. The pacing here doesn't give you a single moment to breathe between the emotional landmines.
I guess there's nothing more to it. I'll simply lay low and keep a straight head. For as soon as I am 'rehabilitated', I shall begin my decent into the darkness of the world.
She was thoroughly traumatized when she thought of a spore entering a person through the mouth, devoured his internal organs and then crawling back out.
"You're a forty-something man approaching fifty," she said, incredulous. "In an environment of constant exposure to pokémon. You gave a bulbasaur to a ten-year-old once because it didn't vine whip his ass. Who had the bright idea?"
He runs his fingers through my hair. "I will never let him touch you" He pulls my face to his. He looks deep into my eyes. For some reason I felt peaceful.
"So you did all of this for eternal glory, but how are you still alive?" They were immortal, him and his children.
Dear the novel is great. Hope you continue updating and don't drop it please
She did not try a futile charge to attack the one who entered - she was weaker than a child right now. But she perked up her awareness and waited as a dark figure emerged with the light behind him as a backdrop.
"Daddy, I don't understand what's going on with you parents, but I beg the four of you in the name of God, please leave us alone. We're old enough to make our own decisions. You got us married, fine, but please don't keep us married"
With slight hesitation, the Lord rolled up his sleeve and placed the blade to the skin of his wrist, then with one swift slash, he split his skin and let the blood drip on top of the cursed skull. Almost immediately after a drop of blood touched the skull the Witch gasped and bent her back, raising her face towards the sky
