Awesome characters liked the story progression up until the ryoji temple arc because it seemed to be so rushed, all the guys should have been taken to the temple and the girls taken in as ninja possibly made allies that way. overall a great genre to take inspiration from just need a d&d type board game to run so many possibilities and roll with the best story but no matter how you look at it having time to mature a storyline is always best concerning quality other than that loved the immersive storytelling great job authorsan. ??
Okay so let me just say—this chapter is a masterclass in how to make a palace intrigue plot feel both satisfying and deeply unsettling at the same time. Li Wanran is out here playing 4D chess while everyone else is still figuring out checkers. The scene where she 'accidentally' reveals that Lady Zhang caused her sprain? Chef's kiss. She doesn't even have to lie—she just lets the Fourth Prince connect the dots himself. And the way she wraps it in fake sympathy ('Perhaps she didn't do it on purpose') while clearly meaning the exact opposite? That's not manipulation, that's art. Yinzhen falls for it completely, and honestly, I couldn't blame him. The woman is a genius. But here's what really got me—the Lady Zhang and Concubine Song subplot. Song is the real villain here, and the author doesn't even hide it. She's sitting there calmly sipping tea, feeding Lady Zhang poisonous advice like it's a motherly gesture, while secretly copying a Rebirth Sutra for her daughter. The contrast between her gentle exterior and her cold, calculating interior is chilling. And that final line—'Fool. She took the bait after just a few sentences'—gave me actual chills. The plot is moving in layers. On the surface, it's a romance. Underneath, it's a war. And Li Wanran just won her first major battle without throwing a single punch.
I read her other book first; I'm coming from married to an old billionaire and I must confess that she is a very good writer. Keep it up!
