If you like MC turned NPC novels then this should fit your taste.The MC starts as a mountain bandit and works his way up with his system unique to him and has to kill other NPCs and players to gain strength. The progression of the novel is pretty quick and there haven't been any pitfalls yet within the first 39 chapters. Based off experience, it seems like the MC will go onto a linear path of suppressing players and continuously leveling up his faction until he becomes unrivalled. If this is your kind of novel I suggest you give it a shot.
I love this book, it's amazing! Can be funny, but with serious parts when need. MC is a bit thick at the start, but grows more mature as the book goes along (most of the time). Great detail in fights and world building. Highly recommend

since the change of translators, i think you guys need an editor and a proof reader with prior experience of reading this novel. cause the translation is inconsistent and many of the terms are not the same as the previous translator, thus resulting in confusion. some of the names of the characters are translated too litterally like celestial venerable yu, yue, huo, etc turned into royal, moon, and fire. even though sometimes they are correctly translated. there is also the celestial emperor or emperor tai or something is actually just 1 character but the naming /title usage changes back and forth a lot making me confusing him for another character.i dont want to ask too much cause i know translating is hard so i dont scrutinize the poems and quotes from this novel that are too hard to translate without understanding of chinese literature. but please atleast use the right titles and names for each characters. cause it confuses me so much on who is who. especially when the number of characters are already so large. added with inconsistent naming and titles, it makes it much more confusing for me to read.
Pretty generic and cliche novel. The story begin with cripple MC, loving father, decline family with traitorous and ambitious elder, mysterious FL reside in family and bla bla bla... i can even predict the future development look like.I think this novel very much similar to “Battle Through the Heaven” except for the golden finger of MC.
I have very high hopes for this novel. I have consistently found the novels with a system like this such as Gourmet of Another World and Gourmet Food Supplier to be very entertaining and a good read. If this novel also hits it off like GOAW and GFS, they will be the holy trifecta of system novels in my opinion. It is too soon to say anything about criticisms so far, but there are many things I am worried about. A) Introducing the best friend character as a fatty worries me. These novels work best with lots of creativity and not too many cliches following. The fatty best friend is so common that it would be fine to call it a cliche. This could indicate a laziness on the behalf of the author, but as I said, it is too soon to tell.B) The main character does not seem to have a presence at all. In these novels, the importance lies in the main character and the side characters and world building. However, the main character despite being a person from our world seems to blend in too well and does not differentiate himself well from the surrounding people of the world. GFS has returning side characters and much more people interactions with less world building while GOAW has more world expansion/building, but less meaningful character interaction. It is too soon to tell, but the MC in this novel does not make himself stand out to me in anyway and it takes time to build the world or make side characters a regular part of the novel. So far, no meaningful character interactions have occurred.C)Would there be any way for this novel to make itself stand out from GOAW or GFS is a big question that I have. If it just follows the paths of GOAW or GFS without differentiating itself, I think it would be a let down of its potential. TLDR: hyped, but worried about how it will set itself apart from GOAW or GFS.
(Long review incoming) Up front caveat: The translation quality should actually get 2 stars, not 5, but overall this is a 5/5 novel for me because it makes up for the mistranslations in other ways. For a novel with so many flaws, this is a gem. I’ve been binge reading Hollywood novels lately and can say with a fair amount of certainty that this one is the best. The first one I read was “I am Hollywood”, which was also excellent, but it had two flaws that put it below this one: First, it was a dropped novel. I can’t stand it when a novel I enjoy reading is suddenly dropped by an author or translator. And second, it lost focus on being a “Hollywood Novel” (capital H capital N) and meandered about in the world of investing and corporate bullshit. The Best Director, on the other hand, remains true to its purpose, chronicling the life of the MC from the moment he gets his chest up until the very end. An end, might I add, that came too soon; I’d have liked this novel to be at least twice the length it is. Three times as long to account for the skippable chapters that add nothing to the plot or story. Which leads me to my first major complaint - filler content. I edit translated Chinese webnovels for a living, and as part of my job I’m exposed to all manner of methods WebNovel authors use to pad their word count. See, Qidian (and other webnovel publishers like 17k and Zongheng) pays authors a per-word rate. So authors have found many ways to increase word count, like in-chapter repetition, peanut galleries, long, drawn-out navelgazing bullshit, and so on. This novel has a particularly terrible method of padding its word count creep in about a third of the way through it: box office reports and critic reviews. Seriously, it gets to the point later in the novel where entire chapters are just dry lists of what movies made how much money that week. Out of the 500-odd chapters total, I’d say around 200 of them are skippable because the numbers aren’t even for the MC’s movies. And another hundred chapters or so have box office reports and critic reviews take up half the chapter without any warning whatsoever. It’ll skip directly from dialogue to box office and/or reviews without warning or any kind of transition whatsoever. It’s kinda bad like that. And the second major flaw is that the translator gets the names wrong. There’s a lot of inconsistency in names (Kevin Spacey and Kiefer Sutherland show up a lot, and Keira Knightley is referred to as Natalie every time she shows up), but what’s worse is that the translator didn’t bother looking up the correct American names of quite a few of the films mentioned. He or she also misses the times when the name of the movies change, like The Departed becoming The Deceased out of nowhere. As a translator, you can screw up anything *but* names. Names are the only thing that you must keep 100% accuracy and consistency on. So why did I rate this 5/5 despite those two massive flaws? Simple: character development. One of the things that almost no webnovel ever does is develop a character, much less the main characters. A common mistake they make is thinking that increasing strength (bigger numbers/Xianxia maths) is the same thing as character development. Spoiler: it is not. But in The Best Director, the entire main cast of characters grows and evolves, becoming better actors, better people, or just… better. It comes at the cost of removing conflict from the novel entirely, but the tradeoff is beyond worth it. It makes up for the cardinal sin of inconsistent names, it makes up for the virtually 300ish chapters you can either skim or skip entirely, it makes up for all of the other minor flaws that were so tiny I didn’t even bother remembering them. But wait! There’s more!The novel also actually has a proper ending. I may have wanted some of the storylines to continue (like how the MC had a whole big scene about buying the rights to adapt a certain major bestselling series, but the novel ended before he got around to doing just that), but the ending was really good. The author took their time to bring things to a proper close and it was very poignant at that. Those two virtues covereth a multitude of sins. So my advice is to read this novel. You won’t regret it.
I started with the prologue and it was well written. It showed the kind of person Cerian was and what he's been through.Moving from chapter 1 - 5, I was able to understand his love for simplicity and love for music. I can say that author did well in portraying how Cerian is as a person. What made me love this novel the most was how deep the relationship are, how real the Ml is to himself, acknowledging his fears and bravely pushing through with his life. I love the story and will give another review after I am done with the other chapters.
This is a very enjoyable novel that I can't recommend enough, very interesting world and a great main character, I really hope this will be picked sometime soon.

righto, writing this at chapter thirty. story is great so far, and you already see lots of action happening. very quick development but hot a lot of info waves coming at you. world does have some theme to it but not overly detailed though the author has always been able to fix this and he's promised it so I'm going to assume amazing world. all the characters have their own definement, though as of now, one of them needs more defining in my opinion as she seems to just be a yes sister. otherwise, this book is definitely a book you should add to your library. also from what I've seen, it's not like most other werewolf books but does have some elements in it. pretty great so far.
