I need to talk about this ending because my heart is actually racing. "Yet, I hold no admiration for the Crown Prince." Say what now? I've been reading this whole time thinking Mu Anran is playing the perfect daughter-in-law, bowing and scraping, saying all the right things. And then she just... doesn't. She looks the Empress in the eye and basically says the Crown Prince means nothing to her. Not love, not admiration, not even respect. Just... nothing. And I keep coming back to the sister dynamic here. Mu Anfu is supposed to be the protective younger sister, right? She comes in with good intentions, saying she just wanted to show concern. But the tragedy is that she doesn't realize she's been used. Mu Anran lets her think she's the aggressor while Mu Anran controls the entire narrative. There's something genuinely sad about a sister trying to help and accidentally making everything worse. But the real emotional gut-punch is Mu Anran's panic earlier: "this was all the trouble she had caused in the past!" She's not just worried about winning this argument — she's terrified that her entire past will come crashing down and implicate the whole Mu family. That's not just self-preservation, that's genuine fear for people she loves. It makes her so much more complicated than a typical scheming heroine.
Let me just say — the pacing in this batch is masterful and I want to applaud it. Chapter 6 starts with domestic warmth: Qiao Shuang worrying about her daughter staying indoors, Song Qingqi studying for exams, the siblings bickering affectionately. It's cozy. It's safe. Then Chapter 7 hits us with the Laba Festival, which should be festive and light, but the author immediately undercuts it with Qiao Yu's secret surveillance of Duan Yuyan. The shift is so smooth you don't notice it happening until you're already uncomfortable. And then — the system appears out of nowhere to scold Song Yuejiao for her 'unbecoming demeanor' right after she's having the best time eating pastries with her friend. The timing is COMEDIC but also deeply unsettling because it reminds us that this protagonist is constantly being watched and judged, even by her own cheat code. The chapter ends with Qiao Yu telling Duan Yuyan to stay away from him while his ears are red and she's leaning in confused. That's a cliffhanger that doesn't scream but whispers. It doesn't need to. The dread is already there.
Love both novels written by this author.
Sofar it’s a fast paced story which is just fun to read.
For the moment it is average, I will wait to see how the author will manage the rest of the story especially since the MC gives the impression of being invincible
This book is awesome from the start and tho there are a lil bit of inconsistency, the author may improve a lot soon.
