I keep coming back to the very first scene in this batch — Sheng Xia rushing into the elevator, opening the door to find the living room in complete disarray. The author doesn't spend a lot of words on it, but the image is so vivid: Gu Cheng'an has gone on a rampage, smashing things, and she walks in to that. The visual of a man destroying his own home in a fit of jealousy is both ridiculous and terrifying. Then there's the scene where she's sitting on the sofa, typing and deleting, deleted and typing, before finally sending the message to Shen Jingze. That moment of hesitation — the backspace key as a metaphor for her entire life — is something I'll remember for a long time. She's rewriting her own boundaries in real time. The Orchid Club dinner reservation is a great detail too. It's not just any restaurant — it's THE place. Gu Cheng'an reserving a table there while simultaneously ordering her a limited-edition bag shows how his world operates: luxury as control, generosity as a leash. He's not taking her to dinner because he wants to see her. He's taking her to dinner because she needs to be reminded who provides. And then the Li family villa — her parents' home, which should be a safe space but isn't. Her father's awkward expression, her mother's confusion, the heavy sighs after she leaves. Even her childhood home has become a place where the financial transaction of her marriage casts a shadow. The author is building a world where there's no escape — not the marital home, not her parents' house, not even a hot pot restaurant with her friend. The one scene that gave me actual chills was Gu Cheng'an's reaction to Jing Ci's report that Sheng Xia refused to come to dinner. "Prepare some gifts. I'm going to the Li family for dinner too!" The fact that he didn't accept her refusal, didn't respect her boundary, but instead showed up uninvited to HER parents' house — that's not romantic. That's possessive. And the author makes it feel completely normal within this world, which is what makes it so unsettling.
