Let me just say this about pacing: the author has this incredible sense of when to slow down and when to accelerate, and it's not something I see every day. The chapter opens with Elder Zhong teaching Pei Nai the Ten Thousand Hatreds Palm—this is action-heavy, technique-focused, almost instructional in its detail. We get the sense that every movement is 'priceless,' that this is a lost martial art being passed down. And then—bam. Tea. Dizziness. 'All forms are illusions.' She collapses. The transition from martial arts mastery to unconsciousness is so abrupt it mirrors what Pei Nai herself is experiencing. We're disoriented, and that's intentional. Then we cut to the Duke Ding'an Residence, and the pacing shifts dramatically. This whole sequence of Lin Shengtao kneeling outside, the candlelight flickering, Steward Li bringing food that goes untouched—it's slow, deliberate, almost meditative. The author is making us WAIT. We're kneeling with Lin Shengtao, watching the Duke stand beneath that painting of Lady Yingwu, and the tension builds not through action but through what we DON'T know. Why is the Duke fasting? Who is Lady Yingwu? Why does Steward Li make that comment about Pei Nai choosing 'exactly this day'? And then we cut back to Pei Nai waking up, and the pacing snaps back into motion. She investigates, she meets Ju Liancheng, she learns the truth about her past life. The chapter structure is basically: mystery → revelation → new mystery. Elder Zhong leaves her with 'someone is waiting for you,' Ju Liancheng reveals her heroic death, and then we get that final image of the Admonitions for Women. Each section ends on a note that propels us forward. The author isn't just telling a story; they're constructing a machine that keeps turning.
This book has way to many opened storylines. The writer drags it out just to make money. It is already 2000 chapters in and their are 5 storylines going with no clear direction. I really wanted to like it . It started with a smart female and reduced her to a person who never spoke her mind
Amazing. I just updated my story. check my page
