The dialogue in these chapters is sharp, economical, and absolutely devastating in the best way. Let's talk about Shang Beize's voice first. The man speaks in bullet points. "Shang." That's it. That's his entire response to Liu when he asks about the surname change. Two letters that completely shift the power dynamic in the scene. Liu's face darkens. His men freeze. The air changes. And Shang Beize doesn't explain himself further. He doesn't need to. His silence IS the statement. Then there's the exchange between Shang Beize and Su Yundai about the kid: "You're asking me to babysit?" "You must have a housekeeper, right?" "Of course I do. But mine only handles cooking and cleaning. Shouldn't I also hire a nanny just for the child?" This is genuinely funny. It's also deeply revealing—Shang Beize is clearly NOT just agreeing to let the kid stay. He's setting up a scenario where Su Yundai will have to keep coming back. And he's doing it with this calm, reasonable tone that makes it almost sound like he's just being practical. The subtext is SCREAMING. Su Yundai's dialogue is also great—she's not flowery or dramatic. She's direct. "I won't." "The phone's mine—you can't give it to him!" "Can you help get the phone down?" She doesn't waste words. Even when she's terrified, she's efficient. The neighbors' gossip dialogue is also well-done. It's casual, almost bored, which makes the horror of what they're describing even worse. They're discussing child abuse like it's weather. "The poor young master really suffers..." said with the same emotional investment as commenting on the rain. And Liu's dialogue—"A kid slipped and fell—what do we need the police for?" That casual, mocking tone is exactly what makes him so hateable. He genuinely doesn't think anyone will believe a word Su Yundai says.
I cannot stop thinking about the card game scene. The way these four men talk to each other—it's so natural, so layered with years of friendship. Jiang Ying is immediately 'I've been losing all night, I'm done playing!' and 'A few million is enough for me to buy two horses' while Fu Chuanzhou is just there provoking him for fun. The banter flows like water, you can feel these guys have known each other forever. But Shen Zhilu—oh my god. 'I'm a man. Don't flirt with me.' Said with absolute deadpan seriousness after Fu Chuanzhou's peach blossom eyes and spring-like radiance attempt. The ash falling on Fu Chuanzhou's fingertip and him cursing 'Damn!'—I literally laughed out loud. This man has zero chill and I respect it deeply. The contrast with Jin Chenyue is everything. He barely speaks. 'The agreed period is up.' 'It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong.' His lines are short, controlled, almost surgical. While his friends are bouncing between jokes and flirtation, he's sitting there in smoke and silence, having just decided to end his marriage. The dialogue does so much work here—Shen Zhilu asking 'Do you also think divorce is the right choice?' with those 'gentle eyes' that are actually extremely serious. He's the only one cutting through the noise to ask the real question. And Cui Tang's dialogue with Fu Jinyu earlier—'plastic friendship,' breastfeeding denial, the whole exchange feels like real women who've known each other for decades. Perfect.
Okay so let me just say—Jiang Jinshu is absolutely NOT having it anymore. Like, we've been watching this woman sit there calmly drinking tea while Shen Nanyue comes in with her whole entourage throwing accusations, and you can literally see the moment she decides enough is enough. The way she flips the script is chef's kiss. She doesn't just defend herself, she goes on OFFENSE. "Why not return everything you've taken from me?" — that line hit different because it's not just a throwaway insult, it's a factual statement. All these years she's been funding this family with her dowry and they treat her like garbage. And then the slap? The DOUBLE SLAP? I literally screamed at my phone. But what really got me was the power dynamic shift with her servants. She doesn't just win the fight, she buys loyalty. "For every one you injure, I will reward ten taels of silver." Ten taels when a maid makes ONE tael a month?! That's not just smart, that's brilliant. She just turned a room full of people who might've been neutral into her personal army. And the ending where she hands over the account books and keys to Madam Shen? That's not backing down, that's declaring war. She's taking the financial reins away from them. I need to know what happens next because this woman is playing 4D chess while everyone else is still learning checkers.

This is my second book by this author and I'm loving every minute of it. You can tell they've learned a lot from their previous novels and this one really stands out in the world building and power system elements. Just shy of a hundred chapters in but nothing seems rushed with this one. It really is excellent!
I will be real, getting here I came with no expectations in mind but The First 3 Chap had me in a Necklock, bed-shooking position. I already Love Cyrus’s character, The world Building is Fresh (I mean the idea) we haven’t had this type of novels in a while around here. The execution so far is Chef Kiss. I can sense The Author’s taste being tinged by other Novels like SS, LOTM, TBATE , etc, which adds a rich and Refreshing feel to the story and the way it was executed. So far soo good and it has mad potential, I wish all the best for the Author.S/N: THE COMMUNITY DEMANDS A DISCORD SERVER FOR INTERACTIONS WITH THE AUTHOR. (The Link in the T app has expired quite a while ago now, although I think you have already taken it down.)
I love the main character shippings! The subtle things especially with Riverus and Cheska!Still not sure about Kayer and Amaranthe since he's still grieving. but I feel like the others can already sense something about her, right? hihi
