She doesn't cry or retreat. She lists her own strengths like she's selling a product. "I'm educated, I look pretty, and my figure..." I literally laughed out loud. The author has this amazing ability to make the protagonist's agency feel earned rather than handed to her. Every move she makes here is deliberate. She's not waiting for fate anymore. She's making fate. But here's what really got me—the Ma Zhiming confrontation. She kicks him. Twice. And then completely denies knowing him. The way she plays the amnesia card is brilliant because it's layered. On the surface she's protecting herself, but underneath she's also dismantling his entire narrative about their relationship. He thought he owned her. Now she's making him the crazy one. The plot threads are all converging: the novel submission plot, the romantic pursuit plot, and the revenge plot against Ma Zhiming. They're not separate stories—they're feeding each other. She's building her independence from the ground up, and every chapter chips away at the power the people who hurt her held over her.
The pacing in these chapters is absolutely ruthless and I respect it so much. We open at the banquet, and the author makes you FEEL every excruciating minute of it. 'After enduring for an hour, the banquet finally reached its conclusion.' ONE HOUR. The author could have summarized this in a paragraph but chose to make us sit through the formal speeches, the tedious toasts, the awkward silences between Xia Zhi and Pei Yuexuan. Why? Because the suffocation makes the release so much more satisfying. Then—bam—we're in the ladies' lounge, gossiping about a 'super handsome waiter,' and the tone shifts completely. Light, casual, almost comedic. Xia Zhi and Bai Jiyue are just two friends chatting, and you think everything is fine. Then Xia Zhi opens a door on the fourth floor and the genre changes. The pacing here is like a rollercoaster that drops without warning. The scene with Xie Ning and Tang Yun is where the tension becomes almost unbearable. Tang Yun's dialogue is so disgustingly over-the-top that you're physically recoiling, and then Xie Ning's response—'Alright... first help me... take off the handcuffs'—is a masterclass in controlled pacing. He's drugged, he's tied up, he's in danger, and he's playing along. The reader holds their breath. The prose slows down. Every word feels weighted. And then just as we're at peak tension, Xia Zhi bursts in and the scene shifts again. The author never lets you settle, never lets you get comfortable, and that's exactly why I can't put this down. The structure moves from social suffocation to romantic tension to life-or-death danger, and each transition feels earned, not rushed.

It is not the best novel in the category if I must say so. Bad jokes, which pop out every next moment from the MC's mouth, and many repetitive moments, like exams, etc.Well, it may be worth reading for Indian readers (not everyone), at least for me. I'll be waiting for the updates.
