Good story. Nice characters, they are a little off sometimes but still a nice story.
One of those books you can’t help but fall in love with. You’re doing a good job, HB. I’m Definitely going to read your other books.

This is a nice story, thumbs up author
I looooved the scene when Cameron refused to be adopted by the Everest family after she divorced Noah and Noah regretting until his intestine hurt when their divorce was succesful. You go girl! Don't be with such a scumbag and choose the gentle chinese guy, which is really not hahaha.
The synopsis caught me
Xie Xixiao's dialogue in this chapter is a masterclass in saying everything by saying nothing. Take this exchange: "You value your brother, but he treats you like an object—first promised to me, then to that fool from earlier today." Hu Shen: "It's fine. I trust my brother. I don't believe Yelu Jian's words. Thank you for caring about me so late at night." He's trying to wound her. He's deliberately aiming to hurt her. And she thanks him. The gap between what he intends and what lands is where the entire story lives. His dialogue is sharp, defensive, laced with resentment. Her dialogue is disarmingly literal, almost childlike in its trust. They're speaking different languages and they both know it. Then there's his line: "Once you are a surrendered general, whether it's feigned or not, no one will delve deeper. Your reputation can never be restored; you'll be criticized for life. So-called feigned surrender is nothing but self-deception." This is the most honest thing he says all chapter. He's not just talking about surrender. He's talking about himself. He's talking about the impossibility of playing both sides in a world that demands purity of allegiance. His voice here is different from the rest of the chapter—measured, philosophical, almost resigned. It's the voice of a man who has stopped performing and is finally speaking truth. And Hu Shen's line about the handkerchief—"Do you know how precious handkerchiefs are? You could've just wiped the blood off on his clothes!"—is pure character. Practical, slightly exasperated, completely missing the emotional weight of the moment. This is how you write a character who loves someone but doesn't understand them. The author's note at the end is basically them breaking the fourth wall to say "don't overthink it" while having just written the most overthinkable chapter in the series. I respect it.
