it was kinda disturbing at first but eventually made my day .. i read a lot of negative along the story but really, it depends on how the reader view the story. as for me, it maybe disturbing but hey, it's a story. a good one actually.
I have to say, the worldbuilding in these chapters is doing some quiet but incredibly effective work. You don't get huge exposition dumps about the era or the setting, but the details just... accumulate. Ration coupons. Food coupons. Cloth coupons. Grain coupons. White Rabbit Creamy Candies hidden under a pillowcase. A village phone booth. The Fu family compound. All of these tiny details paint this picture of rural China in an earlier era where even basic necessities were tightly controlled and a single coupon could mean the difference between eating well and going hungry. The scene where Wang Yurou is fumbling through her pillowcase, pulling out fifty cents and three coupons and staring at them "longingly" before handing them over—this is such a vivid, almost cinematic moment. You can literally see her face. The author doesn't need to describe the room or the lighting or anything; the emotional geography of the scene is clear enough that you're right there in it. And the village phone booth! That detail alone does so much work. It's not just a prop—it's the instrument of Zhaozhao's threat, the thing that makes Wang Yurou actually cave. The fact that Zhaozhao considers going to use it shows how connected to the outside world this village still is, and how serious the consequences of involving authorities would be. It's a small detail that makes the whole world feel lived-in and real. I also love that the author weaves in the family dynamics—Gu Guanghui, Luo Erfen, the informal engagement customs—without it ever feeling like an info-dump. It all just naturally emerges from the conflict.
