The male lead of the novel. He is cunning and good at scheming. His appearance matched current aesthetics making him a hot commodity, but he had a fiancée in the countryside (the original Lin Qing) which he broke off under the pretense of an arranged marriage. He was studying at Shen City College in Northeast China. He avoided the original Lin Qing, only exchanging letters and not even giving her a phone number. Later he returned to the village with his wife Zhang Hong and sister Zhao Huiyan. He felt guilty about Lin Qing's death and brought Lin Xia to the army, arranging a job for her. He eventually lost patience with Lin Xia, and Zhang Hong had Lin Xia kidnapped and sold.
