An eleven or twelve-year-old boy, slender and slight of frame, who helps his widowed mother run their steamed bun shop in Datong County. He is diligent, studious, and mature beyond his years, rising before dawn to assist with work while quietly reciting lessons. Despite his youth, he bears responsibility for the household after his father's death two years prior. He displays quiet indignation when the Prince of Dai's entourage steals buns, muttering 'Like master, like servant!' under his breath. He is well-mannered, polite to neighbors, and protective of his mother. His father instructed him before death to offer sacrifices to his deceased first wife, Da Zhang Shi, alongside him in the future.
