Yuan Zhen is a Daoist nun who meets Wen Lan on the road and provides her with significant help. She is addressed with the title Limitless Heaven's Venerable. She is compassionate and generous, giving money to a poor mother and offering Wen Lan and the children shelter at Pu Hua Mountain. She is a disciple of Suqing Temple and has senior and junior sisters at the temple. She lost her disciple Shanxin in a fire at Mingyue Mountain Manor while investigating the Wushan Golden Head. She recruits Wen Lan as an unwitting informant in the capital, arranging for her to stay in a house near the Prince's estate that belongs to their temple. She is strategic and cautious, learning from the earlier exposure of their agent Su Gu.
