She is Xie Tingyu's mother who, three years ago, knelt at Gu Qingchuan's door in the snow with two children (Xie Tingyu and another daughter) to beg for a place to stay. She refused help from neighbors and chose to freeze to death at the door, hoping to find a good family for her daughters. She later died of illness that year.
