Male lead of the novel, two years older than Xia Yutong. Grew up in modest circumstances in the countryside of Haicheng with his parents Su Jianguo and Luo Caixia, who also raised Xia Yutong after her family's downfall. He worked part-time jobs from freshman to senior year of university to support Xia Yutong's extravagant lifestyle, losing over ten pounds in the process. Despite being deeply in love with her, he was heartbroken when she constantly chose Zhou Hengzhi and Lin Wang over him. In the original story, he suffered emotional devastation, raised his daughter Su Yixia alone, and eventually became an incredibly powerful and wealthy figure in Haicheng whose assets surpassed both the Zhou and Lin families.
