Su Gu was an agent of Suqing Temple who was exposed in the capital. Her exposure resulted in the temple losing all means of gathering intelligence there. Yuan Zhen references Su Gu's fate as a cautionary example, noting that Su Gu got into trouble because she knew too much. This is why Yuan Zhen decides to use Wen Lan as an unwitting informant without revealing the full scope of their operations.
