Also known as Old Man Shen, the patriarch and father of Shen Zi'an and Shen Ziping. He holds considerable authority in the household. He prioritized his grandsons over his sick daughter-in-law Su Zhi, believing that spending money on her medicine was a waste. He initially scolded Shen Zi'an for being unreasonable but was furious when Sun Shi's theft was exposed, though his anger softened when grandchildren were mentioned.
