He failed repeatedly in subsequent provincial examinations and now works as a tutor for wealthy families. He acts as guarantor for five candidates including Jiang Qingshi. He had never heard of Jiang Qingshi before but agreed due to family connections. He is described as something of a legend in Jiangping County.
