A close friend of Pei Yin from the capital. After Pei Yin moved to the countryside, they kept in contact though there was a period of lost contact. When Ye Sanqiu was two, Ruan Xue wrote to Pei Yin and included the marriage papers, as both had made a promise in their youth that their children would become in-laws if they had a son and a daughter. Ruan Xue had a son, who is Ye Sanqiu's fiancé.
