Riggs is a former student of Professor Halver, now working at the Esses Factory. He recommended the apprentice Lucy for Trinity College admission, claiming she is more talented than half of Halver's undergraduates. Halver initially resents Riggs for involving him but later considers his recommendation after seeing Lucy's patent documents.
