Qu Zhan
A young man and disciple of Fang Hongwen, present at the Literary Gathering. Arrogant and conceited about his talent, unable to stand others being better than him. Heard from his senior that He Yunzhao came from a fallen family with a deceased father and no influence in court, which fueled his hostility. Made offensive remarks about He Yunzhao's literary talent being merely trivial tricks. Was humiliated by He Yunzhao's couplet about reeds on the wall and Qi Jun's response about bamboo shoots. Eventually had to write parallel prose using the brush He Yunzhao offered him, becoming a supporting character in her legend.
