The eldest son of Old Head Qian, age forty-one. He has a married twenty-two-year-old daughter Qian Manwan, an eighteen-year-old son Qian Manchuan whose wife Mrs. Xu is pregnant, and an eight-year-old daughter Qian Mandie. He often mediates between his father and eldest sister-in-law.
