Mu Shangyan is the son of Mu Siyuan and the protagonist of the story. He is kind and friendly, sharing his long-cherished shell-casing toy car with An An and Lele. He is observant and brave, helping to catch two thieves who attempted to kidnap a child on the train. He is described as having a treasured toy car given by his big brother Mu Shangwu.
