Si Yueyue is a thirty-year-old woman in 2028 who enjoys a quiet, solitary life as a homebody. While bathing and reading a novel about a tragic transmigration story, she slips and is electrocuted by her phone. She awakens in 1972 in rural Huaxia Country, inhabiting the body of a woman with the same name who is in the midst of a difficult labor. The original Si Yueyue had been a sent-down youth who was framed and saved by Lei Zhen, a soldier, leading to their marriage. However, the original owner died during childbirth after being deceived by a fellow educated youth named Lin Mengling, who falsely claimed Lei Zhen had died in service, causing premature labor that led to the deaths of the mother and both babies.
Upon regaining consciousness, Si Yueyue realizes she has transmigrated into the novel she had only skimmed. She successfully delivers twin boys, Lei Qing’an and Lei Qingle, despite the original plot’s tragic outcome. Shortly after, she discovers she possesses a spatial ability linked to her 2028 rental apartment, which contains a fully stocked pantry of food, supplies, and a sewing machine. This space allows her to access modern resources in the resource-scarce 1970s, providing a crucial advantage for raising the twins.
The central conflict arises when Si Yueyue learns that Lin Mengling, the original female lead of the novel, had intentionally withheld help to ensure the deaths of Si Yueyue and her children. In the original story, the Lei family, consumed by guilt over Lei Zhen’s death and gratitude toward Lin Mengling for supposedly saving them, later enabled her to destroy the family. Determined to alter this fate, Si Yueyue refuses to be a victim. When Lin Mengling attempts to manipulate the situation again, Si Yueyue’s mother-in-law, Zhao Cuilan, and sister-in-law, Zhang Guihua, confront her. The family exposes Lin Mengling’s negligence and attempted murder, leading to her arrest by the local police.
With the immediate threat neutralized, Si Yueyue focuses on securing the future of her children and the Lei family. She learns that her husband, Lei Zhen, is actually alive and recovering, contrary to the false news spread by Lin Mengling. The Lei family, known for their close-knit and supportive dynamics, rallies around Si Yueyue and the twins. Lei Jun, the eldest brother, travels to town to procure milk powder and ration coupons, while Lei Zhenzhen, the sister married into a factory worker’s family, provides additional support and connections.
Si Yueyue begins to adapt to her new life by using her modern knowledge and spatial resources to improve the family’s livelihood. She plans to submit writings to publication offices to earn extra income, utilizing the sewing machine in her space to potentially create goods for trade. The story follows her efforts to navigate the political and social landscape of 1970s rural China, protect her children from the schemes of the original female lead, and rebuild the Lei family’s fortune. As Lei Zhen returns home, the family faces new challenges related to his reintegration and the shifting dynamics of their community, but Si Yueyue remains resolute in ensuring a peaceful and prosperous life for her sons.
