Female character, Gu Huaizhi's widowed mother. She is infamous throughout the surrounding villages for her fiery temper. She is broad-waisted and broad-shouldered with a weathered face deeply lined with wrinkles. Though only in her forties, her hair has turned mostly gray, making her appear closer to sixty. She is fiercely protective of her family and in the novel always treated the original Su Wan well, even letting her own children go hungry rather than let Su Wan miss a meal. In this chapter, she shows unexpected kindness to Su Wan, telling her to beat Gu Huaizhi if he gives her attitude, and attempts to handle the trafficker situation herself before Su Wan takes over.
