A mother who brings her seven-year-old daughter Daya to be sold by the slave broker. She begs the broker to place Daya in a decent household as a servant girl rather than let her mother-in-law sell her. She knocks her head against the ground three times and refuses to cry aloud while watching her daughter being taken away.
