His greatest hobby was reading supernatural tales. He was caught by Zhao Yuanxi reading risqué literature about intimate relations. Despite being somewhat dissolute, his writing skills were first-rate. He came voluntarily to Yongcheng and was sentenced by Zhao Yuanxi to write a short story every day as punishment.
