He made her believe that enduring hardship and starvation is her 'great responsibility' as the eldest daughter-in-law. He and his family take advantage of Lu Qingxiang, taking grain meant for her daughter and treating her and Yueyue poorly while they themselves are well-fed. He is described as having put some kind of spell on Lu Qingxiang.
