Also known as Grand Scholar Liao or Elder Liao, a highly respected great scholar living east of the capital near the city gates. He is righteous and brave, having stepped in to support He Yunzhao when she was threatened by Pei Shangxuan. He inspired many timid scholars to speak up in her defense. He has strong principles and refused to accept gratitude from He Yunzhao, claiming his help was an act of justice. Despite his principled stance, he has a playful and mischievous side, as shown when he secretly came out to meet her. He is a close friend of He Yunzhao's master. He enjoys calligraphy and chess, and discussed political matters including the tax system with He Yunzhao and Qu Zhan.
