Also known as An Zi, he is Liang Yao's adopted son and a young palace eunuch serving in Chengming Hall. He angered the Emperor by boldly asking whether the infertility-causing Liangfen should be omitted from Consort Pei's bath, mistakenly believing the Emperor favored Consort Pei and that this could be a second Consort Liang (Shen) situation. He was sentenced to be beaten with boards without a specified number of strokes, which effectively meant until death. He survived with 67 strikes administered before Liang Yao intervened. He deeply fears the Emperor's unfathomable majesty and learned a harsh lesson about not presuming to gauge the Emperor's heart.
