Li Mantun confronted the union members who came to appease the crowd, demanding that Liu be brought out and sent to the police station. When Liu's workers arrived with tools, Li Mantun warned the crowd that they were bringing weapons and trying to silence them. During the fight, Li Mantun's father pulled the old lady up and hid her behind the crowd to protect her. Li Mantun was eventually taken to the police station along with the other protesters.
