Ka Lu has a keen sense of smell and agile limbs, which he uses effectively during the search for walnuts. Ka Lu is the one who first discovers the walnuts with wrinkled, blackened skins. Despite being promised extra chestnuts for helping during his break, Ka Lu still joins the chestnut picking team, showing his diligence and desire to stockpile food for winter.
