A skilled pig farmer hired by Qiao Xin to manage the pig farm on the hillside behind Beishan. He is trembling and nervous but highly competent at his trade. He has a sick nephew named Xu Sinian whom he brought along. He signed a ten-year contract with the Qiao family, receiving food, lodging, and a 10% profit share. He is cautious and suspicious but ultimately grateful for the opportunity and the refuge the isolated location provides.
