Nuji Kingdom, Yun City. A noblewoman orders a maidservant to drown a baby girl, Little Nuobao, in a river to protect the Shen family's reputation. The maidservant, moved by pity, places the infant in a wooden basin and sets it adrift. Little Nuobao, a Fortune Star Fairy descended to the mortal realm with erased memories, drifts alone until she is rescued by Feng Shi, a widow raising five sons in Da Liu Village. Feng Shi, desperate for a daughter, adopts the child and names her Jiang Nuobao. The family brings her home, where her five brothers and two sisters-in-law react with varying degrees of joy and resentment. The household is already strained by poverty and the oppressive control of Old Lady Jiang, the matriarch who divided the family assets unfairly, leaving the third branch with nothing but a dilapidated house built on cursed land.

The core conflict centers on the Jiang family's struggle against Old Lady Jiang and her favored first and second branches. Old Lady Jiang had secretly trapped misfortune spirits in the third branch's home to divert bad luck away from her own sons, causing a series of tragedies including the death of Feng Shi's husband and the conscription of their third son. Upon arriving, Little Nuobao senses the ghosts and expels them, causing immediate misfortune to strike the antagonists. Old Lady Jiang falls and becomes paralyzed, while her second son breaks his arm. The family's fortunes begin to reverse; a wild piglet wanders into their field, and silver ingots appear in their firewood basket, gifts from Little Nuobao's divine nature. The family celebrates their sudden good luck, unaware of its supernatural source.

As the story progresses, the second branch attempts to sabotage the third branch by setting animal traps at their doorstep to catch poultry. However, the plan backfires when Feng Shi accidentally triggers a trap and catches a wild rabbit instead. The eldest branch, hiding nearby, is forced to watch as their scheme benefits their rivals. Feng Shi takes the rabbit and her daughter to the city to sell goods, hitching a ride with the Village Chief. In the city, they encounter a noble person who is struck by Little Nuobao's extraordinary beauty and demeanor. The narrative highlights the stark contrast between the third branch's rising prosperity and the second branch's escalating misfortunes, driven by the expelled misfortune spirits returning to their original targets.

The story direction follows Little Nuobao's integration into the Jiang family and her subtle use of her powers to protect and uplift them. While her brothers and mother dote on her, recognizing her as a lucky charm, Sun Chunxue, the eldest sister-in-law, remains skeptical and resentful, viewing the child as an additional burden. However, Little Nuobao's intelligence and affectionate nature begin to win over even the most hostile family members. The narrative sets the stage for further conflicts with the extended family, who are determined to reclaim the wealth and status they feel entitled to, while Little Nuobao continues to navigate her new life as a beloved daughter in a poor but loving household.
